Brain Tumor Surgery

An intracranial tumor, also known as a brain tumor, is an abnormal mass of tissue made up of uncontrolled cell development and reproduction that doesn't seem to be impacted by the systems that regulate normal cell growth. Brain tumors can be divided into primary and metastatic forms. Primary brain tumors are cancers that start in the brain tissue. Depending on the tissue types from which they develop, primary brain tumors are categorized into several classes. Glioma, the most prevalent type of brain tumor, develops in the glial (supporting) tissue. Gliomas can have a wide range of forms. Brain tumors can develop secondary to cancer that first appears elsewhere in the body. These tumors differ from primary brain tumors in some ways. The medical term for the spread of cancer throughout the body is metastasis. Cancer that has progressed to the brain has the same diagnosis and moniker as primary or initial cancer. If lung cancer spreads to the brain, for example, it is referred to as metastatic lung cancer because the secondary tumor's cells resemble abnormal lung cells rather than abnormal brain cells.
